Fall Prevention Tips from C-Tech

Thursday, September 27, 2018 1:45:56 PM America/New_York

TECH TIPS

Fall Prevention vs. Fall Protection

Fall prevention and fall protection may sound alike but they are completely different.

Fall Prevention is a set of procedures and/or practices that, when put in place, will prevent a worker and/or person(s) from the hazards and dangers of a fall.

Fall Protection is a device that is usually worn by a worker that will protect and/or limit the severity of an injury should that person be involved in a situation that results in a fall.

Diode Testing in AWP Equipment

Thursday, April 26, 2018 9:55:26 AM America/New_York

Tech Tips

Diode Testing

At times, diodes are used as an electric “check valve”, allowing electric current to flow in one direction and not the other. They are also used as a filter for “spike” voltage. Diodes are commonly used on Hydraulic Valve Coils, in Joystick Controllers, in Control Boxes, and more.

For those of you that have an electrical background, we commonly use the conventional theory (voltage flowing from positive to negative) and not the electron theory (voltage flowing from negative to positive).

Aerial Lift Joystick Inspection

Monday, March 26, 2018 2:18:20 PM America/New_York

Tech Tips

Joystick Inspection

The first step in a joystick inspection is to check your power source. Make sure your batteries are fully charged. For a slab electric scissor lift (24volt), fully charged batteries should read 26.5 to 27.8 volts. You can load test your batteries by hooking up a voltmeter to the batteries and operating the lift function from the lower controls and observe the voltage. If the voltmeter drops to 22 volts or below, you have a battery problem or bad connections on the batteries. Proper voltage is critical so always use a voltmeter, not a test light.

Tech Tips

Adjusting C-Tech Joystick Controllers

Unlike OEM products, C-Tech joysticks ship pre-configured to equipment specifications. This means that our joystick controllers should not need to be adjusted during installation, making our products truly “plug and play”.  However, not every scissor lift or boom lift is the same and due to a variety of reasons from loose or dirty electrical connections to sticky valves, you may need to adjust your joystick’s trim potentiometers for optimum performance of your equipment. In this blog entry, we will discuss joystick controller trim potentiometer terminology and offer a brief overview of trim potentiometers.

C-Tech Tires and Wheels Tech Tips

Tech Tips

Tires and Wheels

Tires and wheels on aerial equipment differ than those used on cars. For example, on slab scissor lifts the tires and wheels are made of solid rubber either molded onto the rims or are bolted together. They can be smooth or have a tread pattern and come in non-marking, which have no carbon black and will usually not leave marks on the floor.

Tech Tips

Supersessions and Retrofits

As equipment becomes older, many of the components that were originally manufactured become obsolete, vendors go out of business, or the quantity of the items sold make it too expensive to produce. For these reasons, the manufacturers of equipment will either supersede or supply a retrofit kit for the item(s) that are no longer available. Fortunately, there are safer, better, and often more durable products that exist on the market known as superseded and retrofit parts.
